According the legend it was a green tea leaf that fell into Shen Nung's cup of hot water thus crediting him with the discovery of tea. Flash forward 5000 years and green tea is a staple of millions of people around the world. Green tea is most notably grown in China and Japan. In China the tea leaf is picked dried and then pan roasted resulting in a amber-yellow infusion with crisp finish. Whereas in Japan the tea leaves are steamed prior to drying resulting in a dark vibrant green infusion with a round smooth flavor finishing with grassy notes.
